Fantastically funny. Yes, it's overwhelmingly the same as the book. But the game format is much less of a finger masher. It's extremely convenient this way! If, by some chance, you have not yet read the book, you will likely LOVE this. Even f you have read the book, this is still worth revisiting!. I loved how they took this story, took creative control and made this story funny and just overall entertaining. Fun twist on a classic. A great tounge in cheek choose your own adventure that will appeal to literature and theater geeks.. God, I love this game! I've actually previously purchased it in the app store for iOS but I much prefer this version-- Easier to see and appreciate the art! This does make for some problems as the checkpoints start to build, but as long as you don't mind a bit of scrolling (easier with a proper mouse) it's fine.An issue I had with said checkpoints that's difficult to resolve because of said scrolling issue is that I wish sometimes there were more of them. When you're going through every decision trying to get all the endings, it can get a bit tedious to go through so many choices again. Luckily (and I can't recall if this was an option or mobile or not,) you have the back button in case things start to look too familiar.Also, while this DEFINITELY would get unwieldy, I wish we could play as more of the characters! Horatio is a personal favorite and I'd be fascinated to see things from his and Laertes and Gertrude's POV. Perhaps a sequel? :PAnyways, overall I would most definitely recommend. There's a very high replayability aspect and even with a few sets of decisions where you get the same endings in different ways/on a different timeline, every experience is a new one if you choose for it to be!. To Be or Not To Be is a choose your own adeventure visual novel made by some pretty funny doods. Although I haven't spent a ton of time playing To be or Not To Be I know without doubt that I'm in love with it. The wrighting is just splended and the way the jokes are delivered never fail to make me laugh. I always find myself snickering at silly shenanigans such as when I lied to the author and he had me killed for being a liar. I highly suggest going into this game with zero knowlage of what Hamlet because then you can imagine your actions are what actually happend in the source material.Over all To be or Not To be is an awesome comedy that you shouldn't skip out on trust me for $15 its worth every penny! The funny jokes and the multiple silly endings score this visual novel a 8/10 from me.. "To be, or not to be, that is the question:" which begins your Shakespearean adventure to attempt to kill your evil Uncle Claudius while fighting pirates, time travelling, becoming a ninja, playing death chess, having a singalong with a gravedigger, oh and turning yourself into a trout. (And you can have some stew in the mean time, and lots of making out, if you want)I'm a huge fan of "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories, I've studied and read Shakespeare's Hamlet and I'm a big fan of Ryan North's witty and snarky sense of humor. Put all that together and you have "To Be or Not To Be". In this game, you play as either Hamlet, Ophelia (BEST CHARACTER BY THE WAY), or Hamlet Sr (Yes, a ghost). The premise is simple, read along and make choices and create your own version of Hamlet. With so many choices, and some cringingly awesome puns, you control the fate of your character and his/her kin. The gameplay is fun, although, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't enjoy reading or appreciate Ryan North's brand of humor (snarky, sarcastic, and nerdy). Also, it can get a bit pedantic, so I also wouldn't recommend trying another story immediately after beating it the first time. While the gameplay doesn't have much artwork, like in a visual novel, certain plot elements allows you to unlock pieces of artwork create by a variety of webcomic artists. Music is charming but a bit repetitive and there is great narration (which you can turn on or off).It's a great game, but not necessarily for everyone; if you like to make your adventures with a nice dosage of nerdy humor, definitely pick up this game in a sale.
